Invisible fence cause cancer? | |
In a previous question I asked, someone had commented that they had heard that the invisible fence collar can cause cancer...Has anyone else heard of this? I researched the IF for months before I got it, and love it, but if it causes cancer, then thats a different story. She doesnt wear the necklace to much, only when she's outside...At the most 30 minutes at a time..5-6 times a day..Anyway anyone else hear about this?
I am always outside or around when she is out there, so I make sure that I keep an eye on her..

1Yikes! Overall, I doubt it very much. That would be easy to study, and they have been out for years. I believe the collars just use electricity to zap... so that does not sound like a typical carcinogen.
However I have heard that electrical power lines cause problems, but I am not sure if cancer was included. But there is not current running unless the dog is out of range, so even this may not apply.
The best thing is to always check with the manufacturer (they have to tell you if they know and will happily tell you "not a problem" if they did study it) and to ask a vet.
Good luck.

i am wondering the same thing. we just lost one of our dogs yesterday to cancer and she was only 4 years old. she had been on the invisible fence for 3 years. our vet said no that wasn't it and he has an invisible fence for his dogs. but i'm just not sure.

we are wondering the same about inv. fences. we just lost a second dog to cancer. both were just over 5 years old. our first was a boxer and the most recent an american bulldog. three weeks ago her blood numbers were fine then after christmas her white blood count and liver came back very high, she was not eating and was throwing up her water. it truely is the saddest thing!!! we changed the food for our second dog and were certain to avoid various cleaning solutions in our home. how can this happen ? our vet was shocked due to her strength, young age and breed.

i wonder about this, also. my first golden was never on an elecrtic fence and lived to be 16. my second was on the electric fence from the age of 6 months and died quickly at 12 of cancer which had spread throughout her body. i have heard of a lot of dogs dying of cancer at relatively young ages (10-12) lately and lots of dogs are on electric fences which has made me wonder if there's a connection.

i dont think the cause for the cancer in our dogs is from electric fences...the culprit might be lawn chemicals and pesticides you are treating your lawns with! dogs are short to the ground and breath these chemicals...even if you dont use a service or treat our lawns, but your neighbor does....there is risk!...walking your dogs daily on chemically treated lawns can cause cancer in our dog.
have you ever noticed the signs on a lawn that say, "danger! keep your pets off the lawn for 24 hours...lawn has been chemically treated"....

we love electric fence since we have a large yard and hunting dogs which require lots of running space. however, our first dog died of cancer at 12 years. we just now had a cancerous tumor removed from our 5 year old. both tumors were in the neck, just above the collar. we are hoping our youngest (2 yrs old) doesn't go the same way. my husband talked with fi today and they said there's a new collar we can update to...i'm thinking they should comp us the collar if they are trying to avoid further issues!!!
