how should i handle putting a chain link fence next to my neighbors vinyl fence?

my neighbor has a white vinyl fence that is right on our property line. we want to install a chain link fence. i orginally thought i should leave a couple feet between the two fences since they are different materials. lately though i am wondering if i could put them back too back. does it really even matter?
