how deep do i have to dig to put the poles in

a minimim of 18 inches deep. if the ground is soft, go 24 inches, and if it is very hard and you can't go at least 18 inches, dig a bit wider and try driving some rebar into the hole for added support with the concrete. use a minimum of one bag of concrete per post hole.
