How to repair a wood fence? | |
· Depending on the amount of damage you could repair the specific section of the fence or if more than 60 % are affected, replace the whole thing.
· Remove all irreparable damaged elements – broken boards, planks, and posts – these must be replaced with new ones.
· Having removed everything unnecessary, estimate how much wood you will need and buy it from the local store.
· Install the new posts by digging a hole in the correct location, positioning the post and filling the hole back. Make sure the fence post is correctly positioned or else the whole fence might tilt.
· Cut the required length of wood boards or planks. Although not as a aesthetically appealing, you might glue or affix together old broken parts to make one whole.
· Nail the parts together, adding extra nails to the new post and the adjacent ones.
· Sand paper the section you worked on and paint it – you might opt to repaint the whole fence so that it does not look heterogeneous.
· If what happened is likely to occur again, reinforce that section of your fence by adding aluminum or steel parts. Consider creating a door or removable parts for passing animals.
